Our History
Deep rooted in Texas History, the Diamond D Whitetail Trophy Ranch is located in the northeast corner of Runnels County, Texas. It is an area of plateaus, rimmed with limestone outcroppings, canyons, cliffs, and prairies, with elevation changes of three to six hundred feet. The Ranch is naturally landscaped with beautiful oaks, mesquite, and cedar, along with all of the area native grasses and some of the most beautiful wild flowers in the state. You can see the places where the Comanche Indians once gathered to hunt buffalo, to make weapons, to prepare for war, and to make baskets from the special grasses on the ranch. And yes, they even came here to race their ponies, as the tales have been told by local historians. The Ranch boasts the highest elevation in Runnels County and contains the area where the Cavalry once patrolled and watched from the high mesas for possible Indian attacks on the sparsely populated settlements.
As the area was tamed and settled, farming and ranching became king. Cotton production concentrated in the fertile prairies and cattle, goat, and sheep production sprung up all around. Even today, the countryside changes over night, from plowed fields, to growing cotton, to golden fields of oats and wheat, to green pastures. Agriculture is still big business in Runnels County.
Then, in steps over the past few years, Mr. Jerry Daniels purchased different tracts to create the Diamond D Trophy Whitetail Ranch. With a dream of raising big whitetail bucks and restoring the underlying beauty of the land that no one else could imagine, he developed his unique business plan and started the wheels to rolling. Six years later, the Ranch has become a sanctuary for all the native species in the area, including native grasses, flowers, and trees. The whitetails roam freely and are unstressed and undisturbed by domestic or exotic animals. They live and grow in the serenity and seclusion of the Ranch and are undisturbed for the most part by humans. The Ranch has miles of high-fence, interior roads, state of the art breeding facilities, lakes, and ponds. The ultimate goal is to create the serene environment of a state park.
